The fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions of a car depend not only on the efficient use of fuel by the car, but also on driving style and other non-technical factors. CO₂ is the greenhouse gas primarily responsible for global warming.

Only the CO₂ emissions caused by the operation of the car are stated. CO₂ emissions that arise or are avoided through the production and provision of the car as well as the fuel or energy sources are not taken into account when determining CO₂ emissions according to WLTP.

² For electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles, a tax exemption is granted for ten years from the day of first registration upon first registration between May 18, 2011 and December 31, 2025, but no later than December 31, 2030.
